The
1980s
As in the 1970s it was the middle years of this decade that were
most successful for the PSA. In 1986-87 we won not only
the Borders Semi-Junior League under the captaincy of Derek Forrest
but also went on to win the Royal Bank of Scotland Youth
Championship against Howe of Fife at Murrayfield.
Eddie
Gilchrist recalls, "Looking back I don't think any of us on the
bus will ever forget the feeling as we pulled into Murrayfield to
the sound of Hawick's Queen o' a' the Border on our tape, to
get the players hyped up. Later back in Hawick we had a
great Sunday night. I'm glad I had the Monday off".
Players
of the time included Derek Turnbull, Derek Armstrong, Doug Waldie,
Cameron Lyall, Glyn Davies, Mark Wright, David Blair, Scott Welsh,
Keith Suddon, Craig Waldie, Warren Coltman, Mark Russell, Tom
Lothian and Neil Scott. |
