Classy Trinity "B" win at burnfoot
The PSA's annual Primary School sports took place at Burnfoot on Sunday 11th May.  On a perfect day the boys and girls entertained a large crowd to a fast, skilful display of grass roots rugby football.  Every tie was competitive and exciting, and great credit must go to the players, schools and coaches for the high standard their teams produced.

In pool one Trinity B made the running and took the winners slot, but were pushed all the way by Drumlanrig A who came second.

Pool two saw a combined Stirches A win through, chased all the way by Burnfoot A, who took the runners-up spot.

In the first semi, Burnfoot A proved a hard nut to crack, but Trinity B stuck in and in the second half ran in five tries to one.   The second semi was a classic win in extra time:  Drumlanrig A struck first to ease out Denholm / Stirches A.

The final was a pleasure to watch and a ding dong affair, and with only one try separating the sides at half time there was all to play for;  but Trinity B class began to tell and they ran in another three tries to Drumlanrig A's one, and lift the cup for the second year running.

During the afternoon, ten teams ran in 112 tries from 23 ties.   So it is a big thank you to our referees on the day - Craig Rodgerson, Gary Robson and Andy Renwick - for their sterling work on a hot afternoon.

Club president David Blair presented the cup and medals to the finalists and a tee shirt to all competitors for their efforts.   He also thanked the schools and Rocky Johnstone for their input;  Rhona Blair and her girls for keeping the spectators well watere and fed;  and finally his hard working committee for making the afternoon possible - with special mention to F Neish and I Harkness for their catering skills in running the beefburger and ice creams stall.

Adie Renwick looks back on the season
This has been an up and down season for us:  losing narrowly our first three league games did not help our young team, and it took time and a lot of hard work by the coaches and players to turn things round.   Confiidence was built up and the second half of our league campaign saw much improvement, which augurs well for next season.

Our cup run - in a tough pool - was much better, and only defeats by Gala Wanderers and a streetwise Murrayfield Wanderers side meant we failed to qualify for the playoffs.   A big disappointment for the club, players and coaches.

However, all is not gloom and doom.   We have had to rely this season on a very young squad, full of potential, who are making improvement every week - and if this continues, season 2008-09 should be one to remember for all at Burnfoot.

PSA internationalists
With the  international season coming to an end, haven't the PSA done well?   In fact, they have a superb treble up, with Nicky Little (prop) a current player who  represented his country at under 18 level, along with former players Craig Charters (middle row) at under 20 level, and Nicky Walker (winger) for Scotland.

Well done, boys!   You have made the club proud to have helped shape your career in rugby football.

PSA Burns night (pictures on this page)
At the Cricket Club on Saturday 16 Feb, PSA held an informal dinner with toasts, addresses, songs and poetry to Robert Burns and Rugby Football.

The memorial park to Robert Burns at Alloway, AyrshireWell chaired by President David Blair, it turned into a special night and a good time was had by the large attendance.   A first for the Burnfoot club, but it won't be the last.

Fine contributions were given by speakers G Tinlin, J Renwick, I Nichol, E Davies, J Kirk, R Nichol and A Renwick, followed by singers J Tait, G Tinlin, C Ritson and C Rudkin.

Fine renditions of poetry and verse were superbly expressed by C Rudkin (Tam O'Shanter) and J Tullie (Holy Willie's Prayer).

The Cricket Club bar staff kept the sell-out company well watered, and Nick and Jackie Powolny (Brydon's Bakery Restaurant) served up a top class meal.

Special thanks to coach Gary Robson for his behind the scenes organisation.

We have two photos on this page, taken by David Blair.

Note for players
Please try to remember Friday nights at the Cricket Club, which is open from 7pm to 10pm.  Your friends will also be more than welcome.

President's message
Welcome to Hawick PSA for season 2007/08. I am really looking forward to the season ahead as I believe that most of the teams in the league this year are evenly matched which should result in a hard title race with some cracking games to look forward to.

Exciting times have arrived this year with the opening of our new clubrooms in the cricket club on Buccleuch Street. It’s the first time in our history that we have had our own clubrooms for the players and supporters to meet after matches. It would be great if you could join us at Burnfoot playing fields for the rugby then onto Buccleuch Street after the game.

I look forward to seeing you all during the season.
